Collection Agencies

If your debts have gone so out of control that it has been handed to a collection agency, you could be in serious trouble, not to mention suddenly under a lot more stress.

What are Collection Agencies allowed to do?

Collection agencies can legally call you between the hours of 8 a.m. and 9 p.m., and several times a day, per debt they are seeking payment for. If you have a lot of debts in collection, your phone could be ringing off the hook. More importantly, the longer your debts stay in collection, the further your credit is going to plunge. As you begin to worry about the nosedive your financial life is taking, it's good to remember your options.

You can call a Credit Repair Company.

If your financial life is in a crisis, call a credit repair company immediately. There are many non-profit services available if you simply don't have the money; they will charge a much smaller fee than a for-profit company, though there are benefits to each side. A non-profit may be very busy, especially in this economy, and have no time to take your case, or at least give it the attention it deserves. A for-profit credit repair company may have more time and resources to devote specifically to your case, though it will cost you more. Remember, a legitimate credit repair company will usually not ask you for money up front, and it is always wise to do your research when searching for credit repair services. There are a lot of scams out there, and if you are in debt collection, you don't have the time or money to waste on the fakers.

Above all, do yourself a favor and don't panic. Though it may take a more significant amount of time to repair and restore your credit, it can be done.
